1. AM Surgery: DO NOT eat or drink anything 8 hours before the procedure.
(Nothing past midnight, NO BREAKFAST).
2. PM Surgery: DO NOT eat anything 8 hours before the procedure.
NO BREAKFAST and NO LUNCH.
However, you can drink clear liquids only (water or Sprite/7up/Ginger Ale) up to 2 hours before the surgery. (For example IF your appointment is at 12:30 pm, you can drink clear liquids until 10:30 am THEN STOP and drink nothing 2 hours before the surgery.
3. Brushing your teeth in the morning is ok,
Very small sips of water are ok if your mouth gets dry.
A small sip of water is ok if you need to swallow a medication (just enough to get it down).
4. Come with a responsible adult (must be 18 years old or older) to take you home.
5. Begin taking your antibiotics 2 DAYS BEFORE the procedure. The idea is to get the antibiotics in your system 1-2 days before the surgery. If you forget to take the antibiotics 2 days before the surgery just start taking them 1 day before the surgery
6. If you have asthma, bring your inhaler with you to the procedure.
You will be asked to take a couple of puffs before we start.
7. Take your routine medications like you normally do unless a doctor specifically tells you otherwise.
